Thameside Pubs
I walked the length of The Thames path in 2016, along its banks are so many wonderful pubs and some very decent ones are nearer to London. I decided to develop my sketches into a small series of my favourites, this is still a ‘work in progress’, all the drawings are roughly A4 in size and a few of the originals are available. Please contact me if you have a favourite riverside pub you’d like me to draw.
A tavern of dropsical appearance… long settled down into a state of hale infirmity. It had outlasted many a sprucer public house, indeed the whole house impended over the water but seemed to have got into the condition of a faint-hearted diver, who has paused so long on the brink that he will never go in at all.

The City
and beyond
I love to walk and draw in The Square Mile, especially its courts and alleys where, despite all the incessant development, the streets still follow the same medieval street plan while many retain their original names. Tracing the wall around the City echoes of the ancient Roman Gates can be seen in names of stations, streets, and buildings near the original sites. I find this continuity compelling. London moves on and on, always resonating with the sound of commerce and energy, it never seems to draw breath or stand still for a second.
Ever since I was the age of twelve I have drawn and painted London...the strange and ever-changing light, the endless streets and the shuddering feel of the sprawling city linger in my mind like a faintly glimmering memory of a long forgotten childhood, which if rediscovered and illuminated would ameliorate the pain of the present.
