Biography & Statement

Jonathan was born in East London and has lived and worked in many parts of the city, his studio is now in South West London.

Keeping a sketchbook has been a lifelong habit and drawing from observation, particularly in the urban environment, is central to his work. His sketches form the basis of paintings which are finished in the studio, where he explores his ideas for composition and colour.

London is a central theme, the overlooked and ignored buildings that are often victims of its insatiable appetite for renewal. These structures and their spaces preserve the spirit of an area or place. They retain the traces and marks of the people who have gone before us. It is these traces he endeavours to convey in his work.
